Power to the people—but make it green power!
Americans are powering cameras, MP3 players and other electrical devices to the tune of about 3 billion dry-cell batteries annually—which translates into toxic waste and more mercury heaped into our landfills. And don’t forget those smaller “button” batteries—the kind that drive watches for example or hearing aids—because they also add metal to our landfills as well as mercury, cadmium, lithium and other chemicals.
So what can we do about it? For starters, My Green Mind suggests using the best new rechargeable batteries on the market today. They are cost efficient, inexpensive, and are as green as batteries get. Why not save money by using them, and save Mother at the same time?
Here’s why eneloop battery help reduce landfill overload and save you money:
Look how well they store:

They last much longer than an alkaline battery: For example, getting in one test 514 camera shots vs. 117 for standard alkaline batteries.
Once charged, the eneloop retains its capacity –90% after six months and 85% after 12 months of storage. They also perform well in lower temperatures—for example shooting pictures in a winter environment.
Other benefits:
Charge two or four at a time.
Do I have to charge 4 batteries at a time in the 4-position charger, or may I charge only one? The eneloop 4-position charger battery slots are designed in pairs. It is designed so that it may accommodate charging 2 batteries at a time - 2 in the inside positions or 2 outside positions - or 4 batteries at a time. The charger charges AA or AAA only. On the 4-position charger does it matter which slot I place the AAA battery into?
You may charge AAA batteries in any of the 4 slots. It is recommended to charge them in pairs - 2 on the inside slots or 2 on the outside slots – or 4 at a time.
How long to charge?
